My Yoga journey started later in life in 2013 when I started to practice Bikram Yoga in Manchester.
From the outset I enjoyed both the physical and mental challenge of practising in the heat.
I was completely hooked and despite having exercised all my life I found that Yoga brought me a great sense of calmness and well-being, which was a great tonic for my stressful job as a Detective Sergeant with Greater Manchester Police.
I retired after 30 years as a police officer in September 2016. Retirement gave me the opportunity to practice more regularly and experience different classes such as Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Jivamukti and Iyengar.
Exposure to this blew my preconception of Yoga completely, that I was not Yogi enough to practice Yoga. I quickly realised Yoga is for everyone irrespective of age or fitness; its about you and the mat.
This view was reinforced when in January 2019 I completed an intensive 200-hour Yoga teacher training course in Goa, India. I trained at Himalaya Yoga Valley led by Yogacharya Lalit.
I am a certified teacher with Yoga Alliance, Yoga Alliance Professionals and the International Yoga Federation.
Yoga is awesome physical exercise but it also helps you get still, find peace and remember who you are, why you’re here and what you want out of life.
I look forward to continuing this journey with you on the mat at Hot Lotus.
