Kate Kearns

I started my yoga journey in Goa in India in 2000 and have been practising yoga for over 18 years now, starting a regular Ashtanga Yoga practise with Manchester teachers Matt Ryan and Granville Cousins.

I began teaching in 2010 having completed my Yoga Alliance 200-hour RYT Teacher Training in Ashtanga in 2009 with Brian Cooper and am qualified with Yoga Alliance Professionals, Chartered Level 2 with over 800 hours of training and over eight years teaching experience.

I have taught yoga classes at Asthanga Space, Yoga Manchester, The Yoga Rooms, and Lotus Five Hot Yoga in Wilmslow.

I currently teach at Hale Country Club and my local community sports centres in Hazel Grove, Stockport, well as teaching Yoga for well-being to employees of corporate businesses in and around Manchester.

I also run Yin Yoga workshops incorporating Sound Healing with gongs and Tibetan Singing Bowls and Yoga Nidra meditations.

I have been fortunate to have practised Ashtanga Yoga at the Shri K Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India, with Shirath in 2008.

I have also trained with David Swenson’s in Manchester, which was an amazing experience, honour and privilege, and I have attended workshops by Matt Ryan, Manu Jois, Matthew Sweeney, Joey Miles, Kino McGregor and David Williams.

Following the passing of my beautiful little girl Scarlet after a difficult battle with brain cancer diagnosed when she was just four years old, I needed a different style of Yoga practice and so studied Yin and MBSR Restorative Yoga Therapy with the Mindful Yoga Academy in Spain and Rocket Yoga with It’s Yoga in Florence.

I needed some balance of Yin and Yang in my life and practice through this difficult and on-going grieving time of my life.

Yin and Restorative Yoga Therapy have supported me through this difficult time and I like to share these practices, with passion in the hope that they can help others who may need support particularly for stress and anxiety and grief and I have also found Asthanga and Rocket yoga a great release.

I am passionate about Yin Yoga. I love practising and teaching Mindful Yin. I studied advanced Yin Yoga with Norman Blair and Sarah Lo and have assisted Norman on his first yin training in Manchester at The Life Centre with Yoga Campus last year and again this year.

I studied Pre- and Post-Natal Pregnancy Yoga with Uma Dinsmore Tuli and Yoga London and teach Pre-natal classes and offer private sessions.

My yoga practice brings peace and calm into my life and a huge sense of well-being. It keeps me strong both physically and mentally and will always play an important part in helping me to keep focus and balance in my life.

During the past eight years of my life I have experienced extreme challenge, change and difficulty and the one thing that has kept me going through all the difficult times and what will keep my going into my future is my yoga, but also being able to pass on and share what I have learnt to others.

I am honoured to be able to teach yoga and look forward to joining the team at Hot Lotus.
